Evidence-based approach to natural medicine

Here we take a look at how your diet and lifestyle can impact your health and also help you in your recovery

What is clinical nutrition?

It’s a holistic approach that acknowledges the impact of nutrition and the environment on your health. When the body is provided with the correct balance of foods, vitamins and minerals we stay healthier for longer.

My core belief when I’m assessing someone in front of me is that everyone is individual in regards to our genetics and metabolism, and our internal environment varies considerably in terms of gut flora, integrity or the intestinal wall and the immune system.

All of this affects our ability to process foods, absorb nutrients and detoxify and expel wastes.

What are the benefits?

  • The types and amount of food we eat
  • Certain pharmaceutical and recreational drugs
  • The quality of the food we eat
  • Chronic infections that can disturb our internal environment
  • Poor sleep
  • Stress

    What’s the role of nutrition?

Nutrition plays a role in virtually every medical condition. The premise of nutritional medicine is that by correcting nutritional imbalances, it leads to prevention and treatment of many common conditions.

How do you assess my nutritional status?

There’s a number of ways to gather this information:

  • Dietary assessment

  • Tongue and nail assessment

  • Blood tests

  • Urine tests

  • Hair samples

What type of nutritional supplements do you use?

I only prescribe preactitioner-only supplements,

These products and their ingredients have been thoroughly researched and approved to have been shown to have therapeutic effects.

While I may prescribe nutritional supplements, I also recommend dietary and lifestyle modifications so further health issues may be prevented and you can develop good habits so you can receive long-term health benefits.

I use clinical nutrition in my Naturopathic treatment plans available either ONLINE or in my clinic located at 165 Lake Street Cairns.
